Summer Sunscreen.
Took a detour through the cosmetics shelf at whole foods today to pick up some sunscreen for summer adventures. Here are a few suggestions for keeping summer skin healthy.
Zinc Oxide - Look for products which contain Zinc. It stays on top of the skin to reflect rays rather than penetrating the skin. Although it has a reputation for being white and can look like a mask, these formulations just leave a slight sheen. If blended properly, they can look undetectable.
Environmental Working Group has a great summer sunscreen guide. The few I chose were rated a 1.
Their scale for toxicity of a product is 1-8. *8 being the worst.
My criteria was affordability and a not too thick and sticky consistency that would absorb and stay put.
- Garden Goddess Organics - SPF. 50 - Find @ Whole Foods
- Neutrogena Sheer Zinc - SPF. 50 - Find @ CVS
- Alba Organics Sensitive - SPF. 30 - Find @ Whole Foods - Currently on Sale. Picked this one up because i have used it before and was pleased with the consistency on my body. Much to my dismay it is rated a 3 by EWG. So, will use the alternatives above moving forward. In a pinch, this is much better than commercial sunscreen because it eliminates oxybenzene and synthetic fragrance. Live and learn!
